Trinidad’s former deputy chief state solicitor general, Neil Byam, collapsed and died on Friday while addressing the Court of Appeal.
“We can confirm that there was a medical incident involving an attorney in court today,” the Judiciary said.
Byam, said to be in his 60s, was before Court of Appeal judges Allan Mendonca, Prakash Moosai and Gillian Lucky, shortly before 11am (local time) when he collapsed and had to be assisted by Senior Counsel Douglas Mendes who helped lower him to the floor where attempts were made unsuccessfully to resuscitate him.

A New York appellate court held in December that the Oneida County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) had no authority to condemn property for a hospital parking lot. The court explained in a rather cursory opinion that under the IDA’s enabling legislation, its “statutory purposes” —and thus its use of eminent domain—were restricted to the development of “commercial facilities.” The court noted that “healthcare-related facilities” weren’t included in any of the IDA’s statutory purposes and then concluded that the proposed condemnation would not be for a “commercial purpose” because the property wasn’t being…
An attorney for Donald Trump said the latest classified folder turned over to investigators was just that ― a folder, and a folder alone ― which the former president used to block a light that was bothering him at night.
Timothy Parlatore downplayed the folder on CNN as “one of the more humorous aspects of this whole thing” and claimed it “means nothing” because it was empty.
He said the folder marked “Classified Evening Summary” was found in Trump’s bedroom at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
“He has one of those landline telephones next to his bed, and it has…
OAKLAND – California Attorney General Rob Bonta today issued a statement on a judgment by the Los Angeles County Superior Court finding that Curacao, a retail store chain with 10 locations in Southern California, unlawfully profited from the chain’s largely Latino immigrant customer base. The court ruled that Curacao and its owner, Ron Azarkman, illegally sold insurance through unlicensed, unqualified salespeople and barred Curacao and Mr. Azarkman from future misconduct. Additionally, the Court imposed $7,970,175 in civil penalties against both the company and its owner for illegal sales of insurance products.
“Curacao’s unlawful business practices were targeted, pervasive, and showed…

The board of zoning appeals (BZA) denied its request for area variances, however, and the Second Department confirmed the BZA’s denial on appeal. As the court explained, there was sufficient evidence to support the BZA’s determination that there would be an undesirable impact on the character of the neighborhood…
WASHINGTON: A search by US law enforcement of President Joe Biden’s Delaware beach house turned up no classified documents, the president’s lawyer said on Wednesday.
