Five TikTok content creators have filed a lawsuit seeking to overturn Montana’s first-in-the-nation ban on the video sharing app, arguing the law is an unconstitutional violation of free speech rights.
The Montana residents also argued in the complaint, filed in federal court late Wednesday without public notice, that the state doesn’t have any authority over matters of national security. Republican Gov. Greg Gianforte signed the bill into law Wednesday and said it would protect Montana residents’ private data and personal information from being harvested by the Chinese government.

More than a dozen parents and students alleging sexual violence at some Quebec high schools came together Friday to call for a law to prevent and fight the issue in secondary schools.
At a news conference Friday in Montreal, several young women and parents — some holding signs reading “No means no” and “#sexualassault awareness” — took turns speaking about their experiences, denouncing the way their school administration and boards handled allegations of sexual assault.

With Quebec’s new law to protect the French language poised to come into effect June 1, the government has sent provincial agencies a list of criteria clients must meet in order to be served in a language other than French.
CBC News has obtained the instructions the ministry responsible for the French language has given to those agencies and institutions on how to apply the law, known as Bill 96.
