LONDON — Iran’s infamous hijab police, known as the “morality police,” are again patrolling the streets, Iranian authorities said.
The controversial measure was announced Sunday along with a series of other severe actions that were being taken against women just 10 months after the death of Mahsa Amini in police custody, an event that sparked bloody nationwide protests.
“The police … will take legal action against those who, unfortunately, continue to break the dressing norms regardless of the consequences of doing so,” said Saeed Montazer al-Mahdi, spokesman for the Law Enforcement Force of the Islamic Republic.

Parts of Quebec’s controversial language law that took effect Thursday could still be tweaked, according to the minister responsible for the French language.
“Of course, we will adjust during the next days and weeks to improve our way,” said Jean-Francois Roberge on Friday. “It’s important that in Quebec we know French is the only official language.”
Despite the City of Cote Saint-Luc poking fun at the requirements for service in English, Roberge says it’s up to common sense, not a burden of proof.
“We will rely on the good faith of Quebecers. We won’t ask people to bring a card…
PARIS — A proposed French law for the 2024 Paris Olympics that critics contend will open the door for privacy-busting video surveillance technology in France and elsewhere in Europe passed an important hurdle on Tuesday with lawmakers overwhelmingly voting for it.
The bill will legalize the temporary use of so-called intelligent surveillance systems to safeguard the Paris Games, which run next year from July 26-Aug. 11, and the Paralympics that followed. The systems combine cameras with artificial intelligence software to flag potential security concerns, such as abandoned packages or crowd surges. Human operators would decide whether action is needed.

Israel’s parliament has overwhelmingly approved a law to strip Arabs of their Israeli citizenship or residency if they are convicted in nationalistic attacks or give money to prisoners.
The law was passed by 94 votes to 10 by the hard-right coalition of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and many opposition politicians, while Arab representatives voted against it.
It gives authorities the right to strip people of their citizenship or residency and deport them to either the West Bank or Gaza Strip.
The decision, which could potentially affect hundreds of Palestinian citizens and residents of Israel, was condemned as racist by Arab…
